Launching European Doctoral Network in Nucleic Acid: INT2ACT holds its Kick-Off meeting

The INT2ACT, Innovative Nucleic Acids Technologies for Analysis, Detection and Treatment project that officially launched in January 2026, held its online kick-off meeting on 02 February, bringing together more than 30 consortium partners from across Europe. INT2ACT unites a broad interdisciplinary consortium of universities, research organisations, companies and non-profit institutions.

The meeting provided an opportunity for partners to revise the project’s scientific goals and training framework, outline key work packages and discuss the collaborative structures that will guide the consortium over the project’s four-year duration. Discussions covered the overarching objectives of developing cutting-edge methods for nucleic acids detection and analysis, enhancing direct RNA sequencing technologies, advancing antisense oligonucleotide libraries and optimising delivery systems for NA-based therapies. The event also set out administrative procedures for project management, communication flows and milestones for the first phase of implementation. Consortium members emphasised the importance of international collaboration, effective coordination, and active engagement with stakeholders in both scientific and industrial sectors.

A significant focus of the kick-off agenda was the doctoral training programme, designed to support 15 doctoral candidates (DCs) who will receive interdisciplinary training, hands-on research experience and exposure to both academic and industry environments.

Applications for the PhD positions, spanning diverse research themes within the network, were open until 31 January 2026. More than 500 applicants applied for INT2ACT open positions. In the coming weeks, the consortium will proceed with the evaluation of submitted applications and the coordinated selection process across partner institutions. The recruitment, enrolment and onboarding of the 15 selected DCs will mark the next major step in activating the project’s training and research programme. Stay tuned for more updates from INT2ACT.
