INT2ACT is a Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network advancing nucleic acid technologies for clinical applications.
The consortium aims to advance nucleic acid (NA) technologies for clinical applications. This includes developing advanced methods to detect and analyse NAs in patient liquid biopsies, enhancing direct RNA sequencing, creating novel antisense oligonucleotide libraries and optimising delivery systems. By unlocking NAs’ full potential, INT2ACT paves the way for therapeutic vaccines, innovative genetic therapies, and precision medicine breakthroughs.
Nucleic acids have become
essential tools in modern medicine
Nucleic acids—including DNA and RNA—are central to modern biomedical research and medicine. Technologies such as CRISPR gene editing and RNA sequencing are opening new possibilities in cancer immunotherapy, infectious disease diagnostics, rare disease treatment, therapeutic vaccines, genetic therapies and precision medicine.
However, translating nucleic acid technologies into routine clinical practice remains challenging. Researchers need more sensitive and accurate methods to detect low-abundance nucleic acid biomarkers, improved approaches to direct RNA sequencing, and safer, more effective strategies for delivering nucleic acid-based therapeutics in vivo. INT2ACT addresses these needs through interdisciplinary research and doctoral training, helping unlock the full potential of nucleic acids for personalised medicine.
Training tomorrow’s experts in
innovative nucleic acid technologies
INT2ACT will train 15 doctoral candidates through an interdisciplinary programme tailored to their individual development needs and the evolving demands of both academic and non-academic sectors. The programme combines hands-on research, academic and industrial secondments, scientific training and transferable skills development, preparing researchers for careers in academia, biotechnology, healthcare and industry.
